Cycling Palace to Palace for St Christopher's.
On Wednesday 10th September, I will be taking on the challenge cycling from Crystal Palace to the Palace of Versailles all in support of the amazing St. Christopher’s Hospice, travelling 283 miles. As many will know, I am not exactly a cyclist, so quite the challenge!
I am taking part in memory of my dad, Alastair Cowden, who
we all love and miss very dearly.
Dad was admitted to St. Christopher’s Hospice after a very short-term cancer diagnosis. There are no words to describe the care, attention and kindness the doctors, nurses and volunteers showed to dad and us as a family – each one of them seemed to instinctively know what was needed at any given time. They allowed us to stay with him day and night over those 10 days until he sadly passed away, peacefully and with the utmost dignity. St. Christopher's is a remarkable place, the people that work there are true angels, a special breed and as a family, we could never thank them enough.
St. Christopher's is quite simply a real lifeline for those
who unfortunately find themselves in such dire circumstances, but this, like
everything, comes at a cost. It costs £22 million each year to run the
services the hospice provides, with £16 million of this needing to be raised by
fundraising alone.
So, with this in mind, I kindly ask for a donation (of any
size) and promise to keep you updated as I embark on this epic journey.
