Nicole is walking for St Christopher's

Why I'm raising money for St Christopher's

As many of you will know, my mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in May 2024. She fought a tough 6 month battle, with the support of St Christopher's.

We had the loveliest doctors and nurses coming to our home as often as was necessary, helping us make the best decisions possible in an ever-changing situation.
Despite the team having full days of home visits to carry out, we never felt restricted to a certain time slot, or rushed in any way. Advice was given in detail, there were always a number of options laid out and final decisions were left to us as a family.

Most importantly, every person we had discussions with put my mum's wishes at the forefront of everything. From day one, she had expressed her wish to pass away in the comfort of her own home, and that was made possible thanks to the lovely staff of St Christopher's.

Since the passing of my mum in October, St Christopher's have reached out a number of times to offer bereavement support. It's a comfort to know the support is ongoing and there are options for help available in such a confusing time.

You never want to hear that someone dear to you is terminally ill. It's the absolute worst. But death is a part of life and the work of the hospice is hugely important, so I'd like to offer my support in the form of this walk - to contribute to allowing other families to receive the same support and care that my mum, myself and my family had in what was probably the toughest time of our lives.

Milestones

Monday 20th Jan
12/04 - hit £1,100. Almost enough to cover the cost of one pump to administer pain relief to a patient (£1,324). The extortionate costs of care blow my mind.. Just like the insane generosity of people far and wide. Thank you all so much.

07/04/2025 - hit £1,000.
One. Thousand. Pounds.
I'm sitting here crying; completely lost for words. The generosity of every single person has absolutely blown my mind.
Mum's journey would have been SO different without St Christopher's and this fundraiser means so much to me.
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart.
Behind the scenes I'm walking regularly to prepare for my 11 miles, and I'm hoping we can push fundraising a little more for this final month.

27/03 - hit £700 AND £800 AND £900! Credit for this goes to Lee, brother & team member, and his wonderfully supportive community.

28/02 - hit £600. This was possible thanks to the generosity of people that didn’t even know mum. Thank you all so much - what a great end to Feb.

11/02 - hit £500. I appreciate you all. Exactly 3 months to go!

31/01 - hit £400 target thanks to you kind and extremely generous people.
30/01 - hit £300 on a day I’m missing my mum very much. I have no words. Every penny means so much. Thank you.

20/01 - hit £200 target - thank you so much to everyone that has sponsored me!
This is my first sponsored event and I was sure I'd struggle to even hit £100, but maybe we can hit £300?!

18/01 - hit £100 target on day 1... absolutely blown away by the generosity of my sponsors.
Sunday 19th Jan

Fun Walk is St Christopher's biggest fundraising event of the year.

2024's event was attended by over 2000 walkers and raised over a whopping £206,000!

With live music, entertainment, street food and vintage shopping, come join the festival feeling on Keston Common on 11th May 2025!

I'll be there, walking for my local hospice. Sponsor me and help to provide expert end of life care to people in South London.

Thank you.
