Cycling Palace to Palace for St Christopher's

Some of you will know me as Gary or Gareth but never Ronald (my official name)!!

From 10th to 14th September, I’ll be taking part in a 283-mile sponsored bike ride from Crystal Palace to the Palace of Versailles on behalf of St. Christopher’s Hospice to help raise funds for the amazing work they do to support people with life-limiting illnesses.  In particular, I am doing this in memory of Walter, a very dear friend of 60 years to 3 school-friends who are doing this bike ride.  Walter had an unusual form of prostate cancer and the team at St. Christopher’s was there to help him and his children through the final months of his life, initially with home visits and eventually inpatient palliative care prior to his death in December 2024.  Extra touches, such as a small tub of luxury ice-cream, massages and tender personal care made such a difference to him, but such items would not be possible without the donations and fundraising which help provide compassionate and dignified care.  Having spent his working life as a sound engineer in the music industry, Walter so enjoyed the visits from Sean, the music therapist, when they talked about their love of music and Walter was able to share personal stories about his time in music studios.  Ask me about the time Walter helped save Lonnie Donegan’s life when he was working with Van Morrison!  Apart from his family, the other passion in his life was Crystal Palace Football Club, a team that he had supported since 1964 and he was a long-time season ticket holder. As a life-long Palace fan, given their  successes last season, it seems only appropriate to be cycling from 'Palace to Palace' in his memory.

With your help and donations, however small or large, I’m trying to raise £3,000.   If you're a UK tax payer, please tick the box to add Gift Aid which will increase your donation by 25%.

Thank you in advance for your support.
